Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - M3-M4 Corridor - UK
I'm working with an exciting client who are looking to further expand their team designing Biometrics system solutions. They're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who will be working at the forefront of Biometrics system solutions, driving the mechanical design, modelling and simulation of biometric fingerprint modules.
Tasks and responsibilities:
*Work within a fast moving product design team to develop cutting edge biometric sensor modules
*Generate detailed mechanical designs using 2D & 3D design software
*Optimise the mechanical designs to meet specifications and deliver the expected yield, reliability and cost targets
*Analyse the mechanical system using Finite Element Analysis / Modelling (FEA /FEM) tools and techniques
*Provide innovative solutions to design and manufacturing challenges
*Liaise with the team, customers and manufacturing partners at all levels and across many product platforms
*Support the management of the design configuration, details and documentation through use of the ARENA Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) System
*A highly successful track record in mechanical design of complex components, parts, mechanisms and devices for a broad range of markets
*Mechanical design experience for biometrics devices, MEMS sensors, or other small form factor multi-chip modules is highly desirable
*A track record of designing for cost and manufacturability while meeting functional, aesthetic, ergonomic, and reliability requirements
*A thorough understanding of leading edge mechanical design processes, standards, and methodologies
*Expert in 2D and 3D mechanical design and simulation using software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Pro-E, Solidworks, Abaqus, Ansys etc.
*Finite Element Analysis for modelling of stress, strain, warpage, thermal effects.
*Experience in the mechanical design of complex electronic assemblies comprising printed circuit substrates and semiconductor devices with a range of packaging technologies
*Experience and ability to work closely with prototype and volume manufacturers to optimize DFM while achieving function, reliability and aesthetics
*Strong background in materials and process engineering to allow successful combination of materials and design for ease of manufacturing at low cost and high yield, producing robust and highly reliable products
*Understanding of mechanical interfaces and surfaces including corrosion resistance, adhesion promotion, surface finishes, solderability, etc.
*Detailed understanding and experience of PLM systems (e.g. ARENA), to include, system administration, part number creation, BOM creation, ECR, PRO process and document issues to manufacturing partners
*Knowledge of requirements for compliance with ISO9001 quality systems
