Mechanical Design Engineer - Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire
You will take responsibility for planning and carrying out the detailed design of complex electro-mechanical products. You will handle the complete project lifecycle from concept generation and schematics, through development and testing, to prototyping, the creation of production-ready 2D and 3D CAD data, and into production tooling debug and BoM optimisation.
You will work closely within a small team of engineers and scientists and will be directly involved in liaison with both clients and manufacturing partners. This will involve travel to client sites in Europe and the USA, and to manufacturers in the Far East. The workload is varied: current projects include power tools, automotive components, diagnostic instrumentation, industrial inkjet printing systems and kitchen appliances.
The successful candidate will have a background in the design and manufacture of mass-produced electro-mechanical products, instruments or equipment.
Essential skills include:
*Fluent and hands-on 3D CAD user (ideally SolidWorks or Creo)
*Proven ability to innovate, build, test & troubleshoot
*Able to present and communicate ideas
*Able to plan workload and exercise good time management, juggling priorities across more than one project.
*Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques
*Experience in the design of injection moulded, sheet metal and machined parts
In addition we will favour candidates with skills such as:
*Finite Element Analysis
*Experience of formal FMEA and DFMA review processes
*Experience of working with toolmakers and manufacturers in the Far East
*Experience in the design and implementation of test jigs and fixtures
*Experience of working within quality control systems such as ISO 13485
*Working knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) systems (ideally SolidWorks Workgroup PDM or Pro/Intralink)
