I am working with a globally renowned client, who are looking for an Optical Systems Engineer, based in Surrey. <\/span><\/p>\n

As an Optical Systems Engineer, you will be focused on the development and delivery of advanced space-based optical payloads. You will cover optical system design, integration and verification. This is an exciting opportunity to support next-generation optical instruments for aerospace applications. <\/span><\/p>\n

Job Responsibilities<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Lead the development of optical payloads from concept through to manufacture, integration and verification<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Act as the technical lead for optical systems within multidisciplinary engineering programmes<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Define, manage and verify optical system requirements, interfaces and performance budgets<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Plan and execute optical metrology activities<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Support incoming inspection, build verification and system-level acceptance testing<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Lead or support environmental test campaigns <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Perform hands-on optical integration, alignment and assembly of flight hardware<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Develop verification and validation plans, risk registers and development schedules<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Own technical documentation including requirements matrices, test reports, analysis reports and build records<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Balance optical performance against programme, schedule and budget constraints<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Support optical architecture definition, component selection, supplier management and subsystem development<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Present technical progress, risks and performance status to customers and project stakeholders<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Experience Required<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Degree in Optics, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Strong optical systems engineering experience within space, defence or high-performance imaging environments<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Experience owning optical system requirements, interfaces and verification activities<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Experience producing technical documentation including V&V plans, requirements matrices and test reports<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Strong understanding of optical engineering, electro-optics and imaging systems<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Experience managing technical work packages throughout the development lifecycle<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Desirable<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n
        \n
      • Hands-on experience with optical alignment, metrology and acceptance testing<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Optical design experience using Zemax OpticStudio<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Experience with optical analysis tools<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Understanding of opto-mechanical design, thermal effects and vibration sensitivity of optical systems<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Python scripting capability for automation or analysis tasks<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Knowledge of quality management systems and aerospace development processes<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Experience taking optical systems from concept through integration, test and customer acceptance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
