Head of Silicon Engineering

A new opportunity has arisen for a Head of Silicon Engineering to join an established company working on a wide range of products, including mmWave MMICs, RF transceivers, baseband processors, data controllers, and interface devices, which are used in various applications such as Critical Communications, Satellite and Network Infrastructure.

Based just north of London, as a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Silicon Engineering will be responsible for managing multi-site UK and international projects and engineering teams across the company and driving the organisation forward.

The Head of Silicon Engineering will have ultimate responsibility for CAD systems and Drawing Office functions, with the opportunity to take responsibility for systems and software activities once the correct skills and experience have been established. You will have oversight of the full product lifecycle and will oversee project management of multiple development projects including feasibility studies, full development, technology research, production support and customer funded work. The Head of Silicon Engineering will be responsible for device costings and estimates, reliability and quality, obsolescence management and signing-off on various documents including new product specifications.

Key responsibilities include:

• Own and deliver the silicon engineering strategy being a proven leader that inspires innovation.
• Lead and manage the silicon engineering function; mentor, coach, appraise and train.
• Drive design excellence, ensuring products and solutions are fit for purpose whilst embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
• Develop trusted partnerships with customers and suppliers.
• Manage the pipeline of projects, including financial and resource management.
• Manage appropriate KPI’s and ensure timely and accurate reporting to the management team.
• Methodical in nature with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable speaking with internal and external stakeholders at all levels (engineering, sales, marketing, senior management).
• Able to negotiate, influence and deal with conflict resolution.
• Team player with ability to work under own initiative and drive projects forward.

Industry degree qualified the successful Head of Silicon Engineering will have a minimum of 10 years experience in managing engineering across a broad range of technologies including semiconductor design (RF, Analog, Mixed Signal, & Digital), Verification & Validation, Embedded Software & Hardware. You will be a strong communicator who works well in a team and who can influence and inspire.
