You will own optical subsystem development from requirements definition through to field testing, working closely with the Product Technical Lead and optical engineering team.<\/p>\n<p>This is an Oxford-based position, with the opportunity for hybrid work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design optical and photonic subsystems for laser communication terminals<\/li>\n<li>Define requirements and perform trade-off analysis between performance and cost<\/li>\n<li>Model and optimise optical system performance, including tolerancing<\/li>\n<li>Conduct breadboard testing to validate models<\/li>\n<li>Assemble, integrate and test subsystems<\/li>\n<li>Support system-level testing and field trials<\/li>\n<li>Act as subject matter expert for optical and photonic systems<\/li>\n<li>Manage suppliers of optical and photonic components<\/li>\n<li>Provide technical leadership on subsystem development projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience defining requirements and performing trade studies to inform design selection<\/li>\n<li>Optical design and analysis experience in Zemax or similar, covering design, optimisation and sequential tolerancing<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on experience with lasers (CW and pulsed), detectors\/receivers, modulators and fibre\/free-space optics, with a solid understanding of the underlying physics and performance trade-offs<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on lab experience designing and running tests on optical systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electronics for optoelectronic systems, for example high-speed data converters<\/li>\n<li>Optical or RF communications, for example modulation<\/li>\n<li>High-power lasers, optical amplifiers and associated safety requirements<\/li>\n<li>Optical instrument calibration, alignment and procedure definition<\/li>\n<li>Adaptive optics<\/li>\n<li>Space or satellite systems knowledge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in the position of Optical Systems Engineer, please contact Ella Flynn for more details.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My client, a laser communications company, is looking for an Optical Systems Engineer with both design and Assembly, Integration and Test experience.
