RTL Design Engineer, you will work closely with CPU and chip architects to define and develop processor microarchitecture, taking concepts from early architectural exploration through detailed specification and RTL implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">You will be involved throughout the product lifecycle, with the opportunity to influence both architecture and product definition at an early stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Responsibilities will include:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Exploring high-performance CPU strategies alongside architecture and performance-modelling teams<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Developing and specifying CPU microarchitecture, from early architectural exploration and research through to detailed implementation specifications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Owning RTL development, assessment and refinement to achieve power, performance, area and timing targets<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Working closely with Design Verification engineers to support the functional verification strategy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Supporting performance verification and ensuring the RTL implementation achieves defined performance targets<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Evaluating architectural and microarchitectural trade-offs across performance, power and implementation complexity<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Experience<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">I am interested in engineers with a strong understanding of microprocessor architecture and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Instruction fetch and decode<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Branch prediction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Instruction scheduling and register renaming<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Out-of-order execution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Integer and floating-point execution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Load\/store execution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Prefetching<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Cache and memory subsystems<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">You should also have experience with Verilog and\/or VHDL, alongside a good understanding of logic design, timing and power implications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Experience with low-power CPU microarchitecture techniques and high-performance processor design trade-offs would be particularly relevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Knowledge of simulation and waveform-debugging tools is expected, alongside experience using scripting languages such as Python or Perl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Location<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Cambridge, UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">This role offers the opportunity to join a highly experienced CPU engineering team working at the forefront of advanced processor development, with significant involvement across microarchitecture, RTL implementation, performance and verification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">For more information , please contact Rachel Mason.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am working with a leading global semiconductor technology company looking to expand its CPU engineering team in Cambridge.
