Less than an hour from the coast, home to renowned street artist Banksy, a diverse and dynamic restaurant and caf\u00e9 culture, and a direct train line to London, Bristol simply oozes appeal. A green city with over 400 parks and gardens, Bristol is the home of an up-and-coming tech culture that is attracting talent from all over the globe.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-099a8ca\" id=\"strong-housing-nbsp-in-bristol-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"099a8ca\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Housing&nbsp;in Bristol&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-0d8ef4b\" data-block-id=\"0d8ef4b\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">House prices in Bristol have soared in recent years with the average house now costing over \u00a3360,000, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plumplot.co.uk\/Bristol-house-prices.html\">following a 10% rise in prices<\/a> this last year. However, the investment planned for Bristol means house prices are expected to continue to rise.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-025f855\" data-block-id=\"025f855\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Clifton is a pretty area of Bristol and is within walking distance from the city center, making it a great place to base yourself. Close to the University, it\u2019s loved by students and families alike. For slightly more modern (and less hilly) living, Bristol\u2019s harbourside offers waterfront apartments, luxury developments, and attractive townhouses, with spectacular views. More traditional suburban areas preferred by families include Cliftonwood, Redland, and, slightly further afield, Westbury-on-Trym and Westbury Park.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-ae7d0eb\" id=\"strong-u-ks-visa-requirements-nbsp-for-working-in-bristol-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"ae7d0eb\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>UK\u2019s visa requirements&nbsp;for working in Bristol&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9cbfa58\" data-block-id=\"9cbfa58\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">If you\u2019re a British national, you\u2019re permitted to work anywhere in the UK. Whilst Britain\u2019s departure from the EU has changed the position of European nationals to live and work in the UK, the UK still welcomes employees from Europe but does require them to obtain a visa. Once you\u2019ve secured a job, your employer can usually apply for a work visa on your behalf.\u00a0You can read more about the UK work visa application process post-Brexit in our article \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ic-resources.com\/en\/blogs\/all-you-need-to-know-about-uk-immigration-visa-changes\/\">All you need to know about uk immigration visa changes\u00a0<\/a>\u2019.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-e2399f4\" id=\"strong-the-cost-of-living-in-bristol-strong\" data-block-id=\"e2399f4\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>The cost of living in Bristol<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-be71c31\" data-block-id=\"be71c31\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The cost of living in Bristol is substantially cheaper than living in London, and similar to that of Eindhoven, with rent, on average 47% lower, and living costs around 15% less expensive than the UK\u2019s capital.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-948931d\" data-block-id=\"948931d\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Typical living costs for a family of four in Bristol work out at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.numbeo.com\/cost-of-living\/in\/Bristol#:~:text=Summary%20about%20cost%20of%20living,New%20York%20(without%20rent).\">around \u00a32389 per month<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8dd2587\" data-block-id=\"8dd2587\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">You should budget around \u00a3177 a month for utilities such as electricity, heating, cooling, water, and rubbish disposal, and a further \u00a332 each month for internet of around 60Mbps or more. Full-time childcare for children below school age will be around \u00a3122 a year, but private education will set you back an additional \u00a312,000\u2013\u00a315,000 each year.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-718ad9e\" data-block-id=\"718ad9e\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Dining out for two will cost you around \u00a350, add another \u00a34.40 for a beer, or \u00a38.00 for a glass of wine. But a McDonalds can be picked up for anything from \u00a36.75 upwards!.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4438e73\" data-block-id=\"4438e73\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Dining at home is also less expensive than in London, with a loaf of bread priced at \u00a31.05 and&nbsp;a litre of milk priced&nbsp;around 95p.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-9d9157f\" id=\"strong-commuting-and-public-transport-around-bristol-nbsp-strong-nbsp-nbsp-nbsp\" data-block-id=\"9d9157f\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Commuting and Public Transport around Bristol&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ceac376\" data-block-id=\"ceac376\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In Bristol, it\u2019s really easy to get around by bus, and if you want to explore the South of England, the rail network means you can get to London, or to Plymouth on the coast, within two hours.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ef902e1\" data-block-id=\"ef902e1\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There are also plenty of car parks in and around Bristol city center, and even some out-of-town park and ride sites if you fancy avoiding the traffic.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-548f74f\" data-block-id=\"548f74f\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In 2021, the City of Bristol announced plans for a \u00a34bn investment into public transport with the creation of an underground and overground network to make getting around the city both greener and easier, but it\u2019s likely to be another 10\u201315 years before Bristol residents start to see the benefits of these plans.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-a0372ad\" id=\"strong-the-education-system-in-bristol-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"a0372ad\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>The Education system in Bristol&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1585cc6\" data-block-id=\"1585cc6\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In Bristol,&nbsp;schooling can be state, or private.&nbsp;Unless home-schooled, all children&nbsp;between the ages of 4 and 16&nbsp;are obliged to&nbsp;attend school. State schools are free-of-charge, Primary Schools cater for children&nbsp;from&nbsp;Reception to Year&nbsp;6 (age 4\u201311), Secondary Schools for Year 7 to Year&nbsp;11&nbsp;(age 11\u201316),&nbsp;and&nbsp;College or Sixth Forms for years 11&nbsp;to&nbsp;13 (age 16\u201318).&nbsp;At each of these levels, education follows the National Curriculum. Schools are assessed&nbsp;by Ofsted and the results of the assessments can be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reports.ofsted.gov.uk\/\">Ofsted website<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4a7cdb9\" data-block-id=\"4a7cdb9\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There are different types of state schools including:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-d298ed5\" data-block-id=\"d298ed5\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Grammar Schools \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0These are selective schools that are usually run by\u00a0the local authority. These are selective schools which means students must pass a test to gain entry to a grammar school. Grammar schools are usually non-fee paying and follow the National Curriculum.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4299a85\" data-block-id=\"4299a85\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Community schools\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0These are run by local authorities who get involved in everything from employing the staff,\u00a0to owning the land and building,\u00a0as well as\u00a0determining admissions criteria.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-952a5dc\" data-block-id=\"952a5dc\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Foundation schools\u00a0and Trust Schools\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Often these are owned by a charitable trust with a third party and run by a governing body which determines their own admissions criteria and employs staff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ad74e15\" data-block-id=\"ad74e15\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Voluntary\u00a0aided schools\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Often linked\u00a0to a faith or religion these, like a Foundation school,\u00a0have\u00a0an independent governing body that determines admissions and employs their own staff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-2b751be\" data-block-id=\"2b751be\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Academies\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Academies are independently managed\u00a0schools that cater for students of all abilities.\u00a0Academies are established with sponsorship from business, faith or voluntary groups in partnership with the\u00a0Department for Education (DfE) and the local authority.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-62fbd89\" data-block-id=\"62fbd89\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Private schools are also available for students at a fee, which usually ranges from&nbsp;\u00a315,000 to \u00a340,000 per year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-7a49a11\" id=\"strong-global-technology-companies-in-bristol-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"7a49a11\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Global technology companies in Bristol&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-886f1aa\" data-block-id=\"886f1aa\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Ranked the sixth most active city in the UK by technology company growth, Bristol is home to many tech success stories including Codasip, Nordic Semiconductor, Graphcore, Ziylo, and Ultraleap. The University of Bristol has also spawned 33 ambitious tech companies since 2011, and is home to SETsquared, a business incubator program currently incubating more than 80 different ventures.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4947b35\" data-block-id=\"4947b35\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There are now 430 tech companies in Bristol. Much of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beauhurst.com\/blog\/tech-companies-bristol\/\">Bristol\u2019s tech industry<\/a> is made up of seed stage companies (42%), making it a great growth area for new and upcoming technology stars. Bristol-based start-ups include XCD HR, Blu Wireless, upUgo, and YellowDog. In addition to start-ups, Bristol is home to Amazon, Oracle, and BT.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-231a8b4\" id=\"strong-things-to-do-in-bristol-in-your-spare-time-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"231a8b4\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Things to do in Bristol in your spare time&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-d68c244\" data-block-id=\"d68c244\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Bristol is in the sunny South West, so it\u2019s only a short hop to beaches in Weston-Super Mare, or to the an unmissable harbourside ambiance in Plymouth, with the rugged landscapes and fascinating folklore of Cornwall also on the doorstep.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-c940abd\" data-block-id=\"c940abd\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Bristol has a multitude of museums and galleries such as Brunel\u2019s SS Great Britain, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, and Aerospace Bristol, but it\u2019s also only a twenty-minute drive to the spectacular city of Bath, \u2013the backdrop for many period dramas and movies, and is home to the Roman Baths, Bath Rugby and Bath Thermae Spa.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-dfbc3e0\" data-block-id=\"dfbc3e0\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Bristol also has thriving theatre scene, is home to the Wild Place Project, and boasts an aquarium that\u2019s well worth a visit. As the largest city in the South-West of England, there\u2019s plenty to do in Bristol.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1890831\"
