The Role:

Mechanical Design Engineer of consumer electronic products.

Responsibilities:

I'm seeking a proactive and experience Mechanical Design Engineer who will be responsible for the design of new and current projects from concepts through to production.

The successful candidate will be skilled in bringing to life mechanical design concepts and ensuring all aspects of the design are fit for purpose. With understanding of far east manufacturing and thought to DFM and DFA, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be able to demonstrate how designs can be produced repeatedly within volume manufacturing.


The candidate should be:

  • Independent but also work closely with other departments during the design process of the product
  • Able to work on own initiative but seek advice when required, receive advice when offered
  • Able to look at ideas and solutions, accept them, adapt them, improve them and progress them
  • Able to assess risks weigh up cost, schedule and benefit - they must be accountable for their decisions
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work within a small team jumping from project to project with varied work
  • Able to meet strict deadlines, react quickly and be comfortable with working extra hours on occasion in order to meet those deadlines
  • Dynamic and not afraid to make suggestions
  • Able to follow the design process through from concept to realisation

Required skills:

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of contemporary consumer electronic manufacturing technologies and processes: design for injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, machining from solid, high pressure die casting, and plastic prototyping process
  • 3D CAD experience with Pro Engineer / Creo
  • Experienced in producing manufacturing packs and solutions and able to present and hand over to other team members or team disciplines including CAD models, detail drawings, assembly drawings & BOM's
  • Design for high and low volume manufacture and assembly
  • Design for harsh environments including understanding of Anti Vibration and Shock design techniques
  • Able to Select and specify Appropriate Finishes
  • Able to Build, test and prove design concepts using models and prototypes

Desirable skills:

  • An interest in consumer technologies
  • Experience in working with far eastern manufacturing suppliers
