I'm working with a an early stage, London based start-up that is developing autonomous robotic solutions. The Robotic Mechanical Engineer will join a team of 9 roboticists, software engineers, industrial designers and business developers. The company is funded, having raised £1m and is aiming for a full market launch in 2019.


The Robotic Mechanical Engineer will play a core role in enhancing prototype robot platforms and developing these to a product ready for mass-production. Everyone in the team is an expert of at least one aspect of robotic system development and, of course, they are all robot fanatics!


Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all mechanical aspects of the project;
  • To design, make, test and improve the robotic system prototype (including the robot and the other components of the system)
  • Undertaking research to explore and test state of the art techniques as part of development of the robot platforms.


Required:

  • 2 to 5 years work experience in mechanical engineering or a recent Ph.D. graduate;
  • Hands-on experience of a robotics project;
  • Experience building a robot (or similar) virtually from scratch
  • Mechanical Engineering or relevant background
  • Confident of coding in C++
  • Confident of coding for hardware and low level controllers e.g. control boards, sensor controllers etc.


Desirable:

  • Experience of coding in Python or another script language;
  • Experience of turning a prototype to a massive-production ready product;

  • Strong communication skills;
  • Thrives under tackling complex challenges;
  • Learns from failures and does not make the same mistake twice;
  • Works well in a small team and enjoys teamwork;
  • Ready and prepared for welcome but unexpected changes;
  • Most importantly, loves robots!
