The organisation is growing its technical team and offers structured mentorship from senior scientists and engineers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\"><strong>What the job involves<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">The role centres on applying machine learning to unusual, real-world problems, often without an existing playbook to follow. You&#8217;ll combine off-the-shelf tools with custom-built components, moving between understanding the theory behind a model and getting a working version built and tested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Work is organised around projects running from early conceptual exploration through to functioning prototypes, lasting anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. Responsibilities generally include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Reviewing relevant technical literature and staying current with the field<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Forming and testing new ideas or hypotheses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Building and training models for non-standard applications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Rapid, hands-on prototyping and debugging<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Running structured experiments<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Interpreting and reporting on results<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Recommending next steps or further research directions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">There&#8217;s also a client-facing element \u2014 understanding client needs and translating them into workable technical solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\"><strong>Candidate profile<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">A strong degree in a quantitative or technical field (maths, physics, engineering, computer science, or similar)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Some evidence of research capability, from postgraduate study, personal projects, or applied experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Confident Python developer, comfortable with at least one common ML framework<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Broad exposure to different ML approaches, or a track record of picking up new areas quickly<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">A rigorous, analytical mindset with genuine curiosity about the field<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Strong written and verbal communication<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Able to work independently and within a small technical team<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">This is a full-time, site-based role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\"><strong>What&#8217;s on offer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Competitive salary with performance-related bonus<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Strong pension contribution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Private healthcare<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\">Additional wellbeing and lifestyle benefits typical of a well-funded technical employer<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 14px\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> UK security clearance eligibility may be required.
