Of course, it could be the bratwurst or the vibrant and growing technology industry that the city hosts that floats your boat. Whatever the reason, living and working in Munich can open career opportunities and give you an exciting chance to experience life in Deutschland.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-16921aa\" id=\"strong-housing-in-munich-nbsp-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"16921aa\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Housing in Munich&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5e1b24c\" data-block-id=\"5e1b24c\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Munich\u2019s popularity means that buying a property in Germany\u2019s third largest city can be very costly, setting you back upwards of \u20ac500,000. If you want to add in a pool, you may be looking at handing over more than one million euros. Once you have your property price, there\u2019s estate agent fees, property transfer tax and notary fees which roughly equate to a further 10% to budget for.&nbsp; For this reason, most people in Munich prefer to rent a property, or maybe even to build one.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-c2eb8b1\" id=\"strong-u-ks-visa-requirements-for-working-in-munich-nbsp-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"c2eb8b1\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>UK\u2019s visa requirements for working in Munich&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4735e98\" data-block-id=\"4735e98\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">If you\u2019re a British citizen, you won\u2019t need a visa to work in Munich. For a single person, living costs are around \u20ac770 per month.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-77b6dd8\" data-block-id=\"77b6dd8\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Despite Munich being quite an expensive part of Germany to reside in, it\u2019s still around 33.3% cheaper to rent in Munich than it is to rent in London.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-0768df9\" data-block-id=\"0768df9\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Dining out for two will cost you around \u20ac60, but a McDonalds or equivalent fast food meal will only set you back around \u20ac8.50. However, salaries vary according to role, experience and the company recruiting. For example, Junior Developers can command around \u20ac53k, whilst 6 years\u2019 experience could earn you an extra \u20ac17k.&nbsp; &nbsp;+-<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-90e82cd\" id=\"strong-commuting-and-public-transport-in-and-around-munich-strong\" data-block-id=\"90e82cd\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Commuting and Public Transport in and around Munich<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-f181f16\" data-block-id=\"f181f16\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In Munich, you\u2019ll find it easy to get about with plenty of transport options. There\u2019s a U-Bahn (an underground), an S-Bahn (over ground rail), tram or bus routes to take you where you need to go. However, if public transport isn\u2019t your thing, it\u2019s easy to get around by car or by bike too. If you want the convenience of having a car, without the overheads of owning one, there are even several car sharing services.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-62d474d\" id=\"strong-the-education-system-in-munich-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"62d474d\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>The Education system in Munich&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9f900f0\" data-block-id=\"9f900f0\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Children in Munich start Kindergarten at the age of 3.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-69b6246\" data-block-id=\"69b6246\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Then, after Kindergarten, the children go to Grundschule (Primary School) for the next 4 years. The child\u2019s performance at their primary school determines whether they get to choose a \u2018Gymnasium\u2019 or whether they have to do a trial for a couple of days to see if the Gymnasium will accept them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-225b055\" data-block-id=\"225b055\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Not all students go to a Gymnasium though. Around a quarter of students attend a Realschule, which provides a less academic focus. After that, they will usually go on to start an apprenticeship or attend a vocational course.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b17cc6c\" data-block-id=\"b17cc6c\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">On the other hand, they may choose to attend a Mittelschule (which used to be called a Hauptschuhle). This prepares students for an apprenticeship, teaching basic skills including one foreign language.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-efaca46\" data-block-id=\"efaca46\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The school day starts at between 7.30 and 8.15 and finishes at 1.30pm, leaving working parents the challenge of finding wrap-around care.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-af2abbb\" data-block-id=\"af2abbb\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><em>Private Schools &#8211;&nbsp;<\/em>There are a variety of private primary and secondary schools in Munich that seek to offer traditional German, bi-lingual and multicultural education. More information on Munich schooling can be found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.muenchen.de\/int\/en\/culture-leisure\/education-employment\/schools.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-ac787fe\" id=\"strong-global-technology-companies-in-munich-nbsp-nbsp-strong\" data-block-id=\"ac787fe\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Global technology companies in Munich&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9b43db1\" data-block-id=\"9b43db1\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Munich is definitively the economic heartland of Germany, with many global organisations choosing to lay down roots in the area. IBM\u2019s Watson IoT Global Headquarters were opened in 2015, and companies such as Proglove, Konx, Deventure, Intechcore and Block360 have all chosen to base their headquarters in Munich, the Bavarian capital.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-05992ce\" id=\"strong-things-to-do-in-munich-in-your-spare-time-strong\" data-block-id=\"05992ce\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>Things to do in Munich in your spare time<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b3179cf\" data-block-id=\"b3179cf\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There are plenty of things to do on your days off when you\u2019re working in Munich. If you\u2019re a keen surfer, you could head to the Englischer Garten opposite Br\u00fcderstrasse and, if you\u2019re brave of heart (or an extremely good surfer), you could take your turn jumping off the river bank to catch a wave. Or if you prefer more passive entertainment, you could just sit and watch.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8dd36e2\" data-block-id=\"8dd36e2\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Another must-do in Munich is to attend a quintessential German Beer Hall. The famous Hofbr\u00e4haus dates back to the C16th and has a live brass band as well. However, you\u2019ll need a seat to get served and it gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-bc6b312\" data-block-id=\"bc6b312\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">For a more laid-back evening, you can head to West Park for a BBQ or a spit-roasted fish from a hut by the lake, an outdoor cinema, or a wander through the Japanese garden. Or, to cool off, you can take a dip at the Art Nouveau building <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swm.de\/baeder\/schwimmen-sauna\/muellersches-volksbad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">M\u00fcllersches Volksbad<\/a> on the banks of the Isar for a very under \u20ac5.
