Our client operates an accredited calibration laboratory supporting RF, microwave and electrical measurement equipment.

The Calibration Engineer will carry out advanced calibration and troubleshooting across RF, microwave and DC/LF instrumentation. The role also includes developing and reviewing calibration procedures, producing uncertainty budgets, supporting method validation and contributing to technical investigations within an ISO/IEC 17025 environment.

Alongside the hands-on calibration work, the Calibration Engineer will support laboratory improvements, maintain reference standards, provide technical guidance to customers and assist with the development of calibration technicians.

What you will be working on

The role combines complex calibration work with procedure development and technical support:

  • Perform RF and microwave calibrations on equipment including vector network analysers, high-frequency signal generators, spectrum analysers, power sensors, attenuators and modulation analysers
  • Conduct precision DC and low-frequency calibrations covering voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance and time/frequency standards
  • Diagnose measurement issues and adjust equipment where appropriate
  • Develop, review and improve calibration procedures, uncertainty budgets and method-validation activities
  • Support UKAS audits, proficiency testing and technical investigations within the accredited laboratory
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions relating to technical non-conformities
  • Maintain and verify reference standards, ensuring they remain fit for purpose
  • Mentor calibration technicians, support new laboratory capabilities and provide technical advice to customers on measurement issues, equipment performance and calibration intervals

The Calibration Engineer may also support calibration activities at customer sites when required.

What our client is looking for

For this Calibration Engineer position, our client is looking for someone with experience in:

  • Advanced RF and microwave calibration methods and measurement equipment
  • RF measurement principles including S-parameters, VSWR, return loss, attenuation, power, modulation and noise
  • Working within a UKAS or ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration facility
  • Interpreting technical specifications, calibration results and measurement uncertainty budgets
  • Diagnosing complex measurement or equipment-performance issues
  • Producing clear calibration procedures, technical records and investigation reports
  • Supporting technical improvements, method development or laboratory capability expansion

Experience developing or maintaining automated calibration procedures would be highly desirable, as would previous responsibility for writing procedures or leading technical improvements.

Applicants should hold a Level 3 qualification in engineering, metrology or applied science, such as a BTEC Level 3 or T-Level, or have equivalent experience gained within an accredited calibration facility. The position is intended for someone with approximately three to seven or more years of relevant calibration experience.

Why consider this role?

This position offers a combination of practical RF, microwave and precision electrical calibration work, technical problem-solving and involvement in laboratory improvement. It provides exposure to a broad range of measurement equipment, accredited methods, uncertainty analysis and customer measurement challenges.
