What made you choose a career in recruitment?

I was in a retail job working lots of unsocial hours and not seeing any reward before I joined IC Resources. I had a couple of friends doing recruitment at the time and were doing really well. I’ve always been quite a social person and wanted to see a reward for my hard work so thought it would be a good option.

What was your first year at IC Resources like?

My first year in recruitment was great! I got stuck into the job straight away which I loved. I learned so many new things and found hearing other consultants on the phone gave me lots of tips and helped my build my confidence when speaking to Clients and Candidates. Aside from learning at the desk you have some great 1 on 1 sessions that allow you to focus on specific areas you like to work on. We also do some team sessions which are always interactive and it’s nice to see how other people approach different situations and we all learn from each other.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years’ time?

In 3 years’ time I see myself working at IC Resources owning the Physical Design market across Europe!

What made you choose a career in recruitment?

It seemed the best option out of uni to develop cross-functional skills like cold calling, negotiating, organisation etc

What was your first year at IC Resources like?

Great fun! Went from a complete newbie to a consultant on the way to senior!

What training / career progression support have you had since you joined?

I started as a 180 consultant, working cross markets and being trained by my manager. 7 months later became a 360 consultant, 10 months later became senior. Clear pathway to progress from here both with management options or sole contribution.

What piece of advice would you give to someone considering a career in recruitment?

Be like an information sponge, ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Why would you recommend IC Resources to people looking to start or improve their career in recruitment?

The working culture is suited to pretty much every sort of person, if you’re completely new you’re surrounded by consultants with years of experience who are always happy to give you advice or help, there is a dedicated trainer who provided 1-2-1 personalised sessions as well as group tasks, the reputation IC Resources holds in the market is a great benchmark to build your career, clear progression pathway to fit your goals both in work and outside of work.

What was your first year at IC Resources like?

My first year in was an absolute whirlwind! The first 3 months absolutely flew by and was filled with training, discussions and listening to other consultants which gave me the best grounding and introduction into recruitment that I could ask for. I was fortunate to get off to a quick start at IC Resources which led to invitations to 4/4 quarterly awards and enjoy some amazing nights out (not to mention a trip to Las Vegas!).

What piece of advice would you give to someone considering a career in recruitment?

If you’re prepared to work hard, are happy speaking with people and enjoy building relationships then go for it! Recruitment can be one of the most fulfilling and rewarding roles out there, but it is always worth noting that it won’t be for everyone and it sure can be hard work.

Why would you recommend IC Resources to people looking to start or improve their career in recruitment?

The people at IC Resources genuinely care… they care about the candidates they’re working with, they care about the consultants they sit next to and they care about the clients they work with. Aside from the people, the opportunities for personal growth are truly exciting which is showcased by the fact that all of our Business Directors have grown from consultant level roles here. We have an internal trainer who has worked in the recruitment industry for 25+ years, coupled with on the desk support and assistance from your whole team. IC Resources have one of the best platforms for success in the industry and is a great place for someone to learn the ropes.

What piece of advice would you give to someone considering a career in recruitment?

A career in recruitment can be extremely rewarding. You genuinely get out what you put in giving you control over the success you have. It can be a rollercoaster at times but that’s part of the fun, enjoy the ride!

What made you choose a career in recruitment?

I finished university with an English Literature degree but knew I did not want to go into teaching. I was working in retail at the time (to fund my studies) and my manager went on maternity leave so I covered her for 9 months – this gave me a taste of management but I wanted more reward for my hard work than retail offers. A friend said I should look into recruitment so I did – a role where hard work pays off! I haven’t looked back since and now manage a team in a role I love.

What training / career progression support have you had since you joined?

My progression plan has been great in that I began as a trainee, moved to recruitment consultant and then senior consultant before choosing to go down the management route. This began with team leading before moving into hiring my first consultant in March 2021 (who is now on her own path to Principal herself!) to now managing a team of 4 across Europe! IC Resources have been brilliant in supporting my career and what I wanted to do.

What piece of advice would you give to someone considering a career in recruitment?

The work you put in is the result you get! Very simple but I think there is a misconception that recruitment is going to be an easy career – you need to be resilient and be prepared to put in the work to reap the rewards! Professionalism pays off so always be open and honest with your candidates and clients alike. Also, find yourself a supportive company too and really research the types of recruitment companies that are, interview at a few, to get a feel of the right culture for you.

Why would you recommend IC Resources to people looking to start or improve their career in recruitment?

Exactly my point above – IC Resources is incredibly supportive and professional. We are honest with our candidates and clients and we really know our area of expertise so will give honest feedback rather than ‘hook or crook’ tactics that I hear about sometimes which are not ethical. Each person at IC Resources is on their own personal career path depending on what they want to do – and this is not fixed – so if you change your mind – you can! IC Resources definitely look after their employees – hence why I have been here 7 years and my colleagues the same.
