MMIC Test & Characterisation Engineer

Baden Wurttemberg, Germany
Work hands-on with advanced MMICs and semiconductor technologies, carrying out high-frequency test and characterisation beyond 100GHz in a cutting-edge R&D environment!
Job ID: 466205

Our client is a leading technology business developing advanced RF, microwave and mmWave solutions for high-performance electronic systems. Their work supports demanding applications across areas such as AI infrastructure, 5G/6G communications, automotive radar, aerospace, defence and semiconductor technology.

They are looking for an MMIC Test & Characterisation Engineer to support the validation and characterisation of next-generation RF/mmWave ICs, MMICs and semiconductor technologies.

The role

The MMIC Test & Characterisation Engineer will be responsible for hands-on RF/mmWave measurement, validation and data analysis for advanced high-frequency devices and test structures.

This role sits close to the technology, working with IC designers, modelling engineers, semiconductor technology teams and packaging specialists to correlate real measurement data with simulation and design expectations.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Characterising MMICs, RFICs and semiconductor test structures
  • Performing on-wafer and packaged-device measurements
  • Working with RF/mmWave instrumentation including VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators and probe stations
  • Carrying out S-parameter, noise, power, linearity and large-signal measurements
  • Supporting device validation, technology qualification and compact model verification
  • Developing automated measurement and data-processing workflows using Python, MATLAB or similar tools
  • Improving measurement repeatability, throughput and data quality
  • Analysing measurement data and feeding results back into design, modelling and technology teams
  • Documenting test methods, measurement setups and technical findings

What they are looking for

The ideal MMIC Test & Characterisation Engineer will have strong hands-on experience in RF/mmWave test, measurement and semiconductor characterisation.

You should bring experience across areas such as:

  • RF, microwave or mmWave IC test and characterisation
  • On-wafer or packaged-device measurement
  • High-frequency measurement equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators and probe stations
  • Measurements at microwave or mmWave frequencies, ideally above 100 GHz
  • RF calibration, de-embedding and device characterisation techniques
  • Test automation using Python, MATLAB or similar tools
  • Working with semiconductor technologies such as GaAs, InP, SiGe, CMOS or related RF/mmWave platforms
  • Analysing measurement results and correlating them with simulated performance

Experience with ADS, HFSS, EMPro, Cadence, compact modelling workflows or automated RF test system development would be beneficial.

A background in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics or a related technical discipline is expected.

Why it’s worth considering

This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being hands-on with advanced RF/mmWave measurement rather than sitting far away from the hardware.

The role offers exposure to technologies operating at the leading edge of mmWave development, including devices and measurement setups beyond 100 GHz. You will be working in a research-driven environment where the data you generate directly influences design decisions, model development and future RF/mmWave technology platforms.

For someone who enjoys high-frequency test, semiconductor characterisation, automation and solving difficult measurement problems, this MMIC Test & Characterisation Engineer position offers a technically strong and highly relevant environment.
