Senior RF Electronics Engineer

Cambridgeshire, England
Work on cutting-edge RF hardware across defence, communications and sensing, taking designs from concept through to real-world testing!
Job ID: 512256

Our client is a highly regarded technology and engineering organisation developing complex electronic and RF systems across sectors including defence, communications, industrial technology and advanced consumer products.

They work on technically challenging projects where engineers are typically creating something new rather than making incremental changes to an established product. They are now looking for a Senior RF Electronics Engineer to take ownership of RF and electronics development across a variety of multidisciplinary projects.

As a Senior RF Electronics Engineer, you’ll work across the full hardware development lifecycle, from early-stage concepts and architecture through detailed design, prototyping, integration, testing and verification.

Projects vary significantly, but the RF work can include:

  • RF front-end and circuit design, including LNAs, power amplifiers and associated RF circuitry
  • RF system and electronics development for communications, sensing and defence applications
  • Low-noise power-supply and mixed-signal electronics design
  • PCB design, hardware bring-up, debugging and integration
  • RF testing using VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators and other laboratory equipment
  • Working alongside antenna, mechanical, software, firmware and systems engineers

This is also a client-facing engineering environment, so you’ll be involved in understanding technical requirements, explaining design decisions and helping turn complex problems into practical engineering solutions.

What they are looking for

Our client is less concerned with engineers having used an exact set of tools and more interested in strong RF fundamentals and a track record of delivering working hardware.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong electronic circuit design fundamentals
  • Commercial RF electronics design experience
  • Experience designing circuits such as LNAs, PAs or similar RF front-end hardware
  • Understanding of low-noise DC/DC or SMPS design
  • Hands-on RF hardware bring-up, debugging and testing experience

Experience with tools such as CST, HFSS, Microwave Office or Altium would be useful, but isn’t essential.

Due to some of the programmes involved, you must be eligible for UK security clearance.

Why consider it?

The main attraction of this Senior RF Electronics Engineer position is the variety. You won’t be developing the same product generation after generation; you’ll work across different technologies, applications and engineering problems.

You’ll also have access to extensive in-house electronics and RF development facilities, allowing you to stay closely involved from design through to physical hardware, testing and verification.

It’s particularly well suited to an RF engineer who enjoys technically difficult work, wants exposure to a broader range of applications and prefers an environment where they can remain genuinely hands-on.
