About the company:

They are a pioneering UK technology company delivering high-performance physical layer solutions for 5G and next‑generation wireless networks, with a particular focus on Non‑Terrestrial Networks (NTN) such as satellite communications.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team developing next-generation wireless communications technology. This role will focus on the development, optimisation and integration of software infrastructure supporting high-performance embedded and real-time systems.

Working closely with software, hardware and systems teams, you will contribute to the delivery of advanced communications products while helping to drive performance, reliability and scalability across the software platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop software platforms used to run and test communications algorithms
  • Optimise software performance using multi-threading, SIMD and hardware acceleration techniques
  • Integrate software with ARM-based embedded platforms and hardware systems
  • Support and improve automated testing and CI pipelines
  • Participate in integration, interoperability and system testing activities
  • Work collaboratively with software, hardware and architecture teams to deliver robust solutions
  • Contribute to technical reviews and customer-facing engineering discussions

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong C or C++ programming experience
  • Experience working with Linux and embedded software environments
  • Knowledge of Python, Bash, Groovy or similar scripting languages
  • Understanding of real-time systems and performance-critical software
  • Experience with Git, GitHub and modern software development workflows

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience within telecommunications or wireless communications environments
  • Knowledge of 5G technologies and associated specifications
  • Experience with networking technologies such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
  • Experience with FPGA, DSP or hardware acceleration technologies
  • Familiarity with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado
  • Exposure to O-RAN architectures and fronthaul technologies
  • Test and validation experience, ideally involving RF equipment and signal analysis

Interview Process:

Stage 1: 30-minute screening interview covering experience, motivations and technical background.

Stage 2: Approximately 90-minute onsite technical interview focused on problem-solving, software engineering fundamentals, communications knowledge and technical decision-making, followed by a site tour.

Why Apply?

  • Work on cutting-edge communications technology
  • Collaborate with experienced software, hardware and systems engineers
  • Gain exposure to embedded Linux, real-time systems, FPGA acceleration and wireless technologies
  • Opportunity to influence products deployed in advanced communications environments
