Lead Radar Systems Engineer

Cambridgeshire, England
Turn uncertain customer requirements into radar architectures, balancing detection performance with practical RF design while guiding engineering delivery and capability development!
Job ID: 532579

Our client is looking for a Lead Radar Systems Engineer based just south of Cambridge, combining hands-on technical work with responsibility for radar architecture, project delivery and the development of its radar capability.

Our client is an engineering consultancy developing bespoke RF and sensing systems. Its wider radar work includes compact millimetre-wave sensing for detection and navigation applications, where performance must be balanced against practical constraints on size, weight and power.

You’ll help turn customer challenges into workable radar systems, including situations where the requirements need defining before an architecture can be selected. The work spans initial concepts, performance modelling and RF architecture through to demonstration and deployment.

As Lead Radar Systems Engineer, you’ll assess trade-offs between detection range, resolution, sensitivity and clutter performance, alongside cost, technical risk and implementation complexity. Working with RF, electronics, signal processing, software and systems engineers, you’ll guide the technical decisions that determine how the complete system performs.

You’ll also work directly with customers, shape proposals and project scope, mentor engineers and contribute to technology roadmaps and recruitment.

The key requirements are:

  • Extensive industrial experience developing bespoke radar systems
  • Strong radar architecture and performance modelling expertise, with depth across relevant areas such as pulsed radar, FMCW or SAR/radar imaging
  • A practical understanding of RF transceivers, antennas, propagation and microwave hardware
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering delivery, capturing requirements and planning verification and validation
  • Confidence explaining technical decisions to customers and developing other engineers

The appeal is the combination of technical ownership, customer involvement and influence over future engineering capability, while remaining closely involved in the engineering itself. Our client also supports professional development and career progression.

The role requires UK SC / UKEO clearance.
